SAWEN Secretariat is located in Kathmandu, Nepal at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Building which was established in April, 2011.
SAWEN aims to combat wildlife crime through cooperation, collaboration, coordination, capacity building and communication.
SAWEN is an intergovernmental law enforcement support body comprising of eight South Asian countries namely: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It was officially launched during the second meeting of South Asia Experts Group on Illegal Wildlife Trade held from 29-30 January 2011 in Paro, Bhutan.
